On February 9, the 14th General Assembly of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) was held at the National Gymnastics Arena.
The report-based assembly was attended by members of the AGF Executive Committee, representatives of founding organizations, federation members and representatives, as well as coaches and gymnasts from national teams in various gymnastics disciplines.
Opening the event, Rauf Aliyev, a member of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) and the AGF Executive Committee, greeted the participants and congratulated the sports community on the re-election of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, in the presidential elections held in Azerbaijan, emphasizing the continuous attention and care given to sports and athletes.
First, the members of the mandate commission appointed by the Executive Committee were introduced, and then the protocol and agenda of the general assembly were approved.
During the meeting, a video report was presented by the federation’s secretary general, discussing achievements in gymnastics sports in 2023, international competitions held in the capital, the establishment of new gymnastics sections in the regions, and AGF's successes in the international arena.
The financial report of AGF for the previous year was also discussed.
Mariana Vasileva, a member of the AGF Executive Committee and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, stated that 2023 was a successful year for our gymnasts, and that they are looking forward to another responsible Olympic year ahead.
M. Vasileva noted that the achievements in gymnastics were made possible due to the significant attention and care of Mehriban Aliyeva, the President of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.
Gyurka Gancheva, head of the department at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sport (ADBTIA), spoke about the successful cooperation between AGF and ADBTIA, emphasizing that mutual activities will continue in the future.
Elshad Narimanov, chairman of the AGF Veterans Council, highlighted that veteran gymnasts are also under the attention and care of the federation's leadership.
Later, commemorative medals were presented to athletes who achieved success in gymnastics in 2023. Kamilla Aliyeva, the winner of the European Championship in rhythmic gymnastics held in Baku, and Tofiq Aliyev and Adil Haci Zade, winners of the team event at the World Championship in trampoline gymnastics and tumbling held in Birmingham, England, were awarded AGF's silver medal.
The General Assembly concluded its work with an official closing.
