Another first in Azerbaijan’s Gymnastics history

From June 17 to 25, 2023, the Special Olympics World Summer Games will be held in Berlin, Germany, featuring 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 190 countries competing in 26 sports disciplines.

For the first time in the history of Azerbaijani gymnastics, our country will be represented at the Games by rhythmic gymnast Mehriban Taghiyeva.

Our athlete will showcase her skills in the individual apparatus routines (ball, hoop, clubs, ribbon) as well as in the all-around program.

On June 10, a pre-competition control training was held at the National Gymnastics Arena. During the open session for media representatives, the gymnast presented her full competition program.

It is worth noting that the Special Olympics gymnastics program has been taught in Azerbaijan since 2017. In October of last year, the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation invited Greek expert Sofia Boura to the country, who conducted coaching and judging courses on Special Olympics gymnastics.
