On July 6-7, our gymnasts - Mikhail Malkin, Tofig Aliyev, Adil Hajizada, Bilal Gurbanov & Seljan Mahsudova represented our country at the Trampoline Gymnastics & Tumbling World Cup held in the Portuguese city of Coimbra. The competition was remarkable with the Gold medal of the World & European Champion - Mikhail Malkin. He also became the winner of the World Cup series. Having received 31.100 points in this tournament, he insured the first place in Tumbling. Thus, he was awarded with the Gold medal. The results of our athlete achieved at the two World Cups (Baku & Coimbra) enabled him to become a winner of the International Gymnastics Federation’s (FIG) Cup.
Our other representative, the winner of the World Championships in a Team competition & Silver medalist of the European Championships - Tofig Aliyev - didn’t succeed to mount to the podium, but he took one of the top places. Having received 29.700 points from the judges at the Final, he took the 4th place.
The members of our National Team took the first three places in the qualification of the World Cup in Tumbling. However, according to the rules, only two gymnasts from each country are allowed to participate in the final. Therefore, despite high score of Adil Hajizada, he didn’t participate in the Final.
Although Bilal Gurbanov and Seljan Mahsudova demonstrated perseverance at the competition, they could not reach the final this time.
At the weekend, news of another medal came again from the city of Coimbra. Thus, at the International competition called “Coimbra GymFest 2024”, which took place on July 5-7, our tumbling representative, Aleksey Karatashov, left all his rivals behind and became the winner. Having scored 97.300 points, he grabbed the Gold medal.
We congratulate our athletes on their victory & wish them success in future competitions.
