The letter and a carpet especially made for the anniversary by Azerbaijani weavers were presented by the Secretary General of the National Federation, Farid Gayibov, within the framework of the World Gymnaestrada taking place in Lausanne these days.

It is noted in the congratulation that the FIG is considered the world’s oldest sports organization. The Federation has passed the glorious great way for more than a century history. At the moment of its birth, it consolidated only the sportsmen of three states, but, today, the National Federations of more than 120 countries have affiliated themselves with the FIG. “Azerbaijan has entered the world of gymnastics comparatively recently. But our country has achieved great successes for this period. Our gymnasts took the prize-winning places at prestigious world competitions. Azerbaijan hosted the European and World Championships in rhythmic gymnastics. And the main thing is that gymnastics has become popular and favorite in Azerbaijan for this period of time. The events and championships attract a big interest in our country and the venues are crowded during the competitions. And, today, I would like to express my gratitude for the assistance and cooperation, for the support offered to us by the FIG for all these years,” Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva emphasized. She also expressed her gratitude for the work carried out by the FIG for the spread and support of this aesthetic and harmonious sports discipline, as well as for the efforts directed at its development and popularization today.

Mr. Bruno Grandi, in his turn, expressed his thanks to Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva for the honor made and stated that Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation was among those federations the development of which was seen year after year.
