Masterclasses for national team and club coaches were conducted at the National Gymnastics Arena by Dmitriy Poliarush, member of the Trampoline Gymnastics Technical Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation, a two-time Olympian, six-time World Champion, and seven-time European Champion in trampoline gymnastics. The Belarusian expert later shared his impressions.
– Welcome to Azerbaijan. Could you provide more details about the trampoline gymnastics masterclasses held under your leadership in our capital?
– This is not my first visit to Azerbaijan. I can say that my trips here have become a tradition. I come to Azerbaijan every year, which makes me very happy. Usually, I come in connection with judging and coaching courses. This time, I am here to conduct masterclasses. During the classes, both coaches and children had the opportunity to work together simultaneously.
More than 30 children from various clubs in Azerbaijan participated in the masterclasses, and they left a very positive impression on me. The children were hardworking, attentive, and tried to meet all the requirements. When they faced difficulties, they worked on their mistakes and tried to achieve their goals.
As for the coaching courses, the coaches attended all training sessions. They asked a lot of questions and actively participated in the exercises with the children. We also had the opportunity to provide information to coaches regarding judging rules.
– As a professional, what are your thoughts on the development of trampoline gymnastics worldwide?
– The level of trampoline gymnastics worldwide is very high. I can say that the competition is especially intense among men. This is clearly visible. You can see it from the number of countries and participants involved, and from the difficulty of the elements gymnasts are performing.
All of this is also connected to the availability of new equipment and apparatus in the sport. Since trampoline gymnastics is part of the Olympic Games program, it is developing rapidly. Athletes are striving to earn Olympic licenses. Achieving that in trampoline gymnastics is very difficult. In total, only 16 licenses (for both men and women) are available.
Of course, countries are eager to be represented at the Olympic Games. I would say the competition for qualification is extremely tough. This undoubtedly contributes to the global development of trampoline gymnastics because everyone aims to participate in the Olympics.
– How would you assess the development of trampoline gymnastics in Azerbaijan?
– Since 2013–2014, when the development of trampoline gymnastics began in Azerbaijan, significant progress has been made. The process has continued for over ten years now. The performances of Azerbaijani athletes make me happy. There is even a real chance to qualify for the Olympic Games. If a license is obtained, it will be the first in the history of Azerbaijani trampoline gymnastics.
Many children are now involved in the sport, and young coaches are emerging. As far as I know, trampoline gymnastics sections are operating in the regions as well. With the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the development of trampoline gymnastics is being carried out not only in the capital but also in the regions. As a result, athletes are progressing and achieving high results.
– Could you share your impressions about our country?
– I’ve been to Azerbaijan many times. I can say that I feel at home here. As always, the people are friendly, hospitable, and sincere. The food is delicious. I always receive a warm welcome here, and that’s why I am always happy to come to Azerbaijan.
