We present an interview with Tatyana Lavrenchuk, the head coach of the “Klerksdorp School of Gymnastics” club from South Africa, who came to Azerbaijan for training camps.
How did the training camp go?
- The training camp went very well and we are very satisfied. All the coaches worked with us willingly and helped us. We are open to criticism and corrections. We want to improve even further.
Who else came with you to the training camp?
- Two girls came with me. We represent the “Klerksdorp School of Gymnastics” club. Both of them are teenagers, 15 years old. One of them is Shidey Konson. This year, she placed third in the continental championship for teenagers held in Africa. Additionally, she won first place in her country. The other gymnast is Oratil Volanto. He started gymnastics late, at the age of 12, but he is making progress. We want Oratil to improve and achieve success.
You are originally from Baku. Do you miss Azerbaijan?
- My love for Baku is always with me. I miss it a lot. I have many friends, acquaintances, and companions here. I studied at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sport with them. Also, some of my first students live here. One of them is Gulara Nuriyeva, a master of sports in the Republic of Azerbaijan. I have already met with them here.
Do you think the new Olympic rules in rhythmic gymnastics are harder than the previous ones?
- I believe they have become more difficult artistically. This cannot be taught. It either exists or it doesn’t. It must come from the spirit. If a child understands this, it will be easier for them. The emotional aspect is more challenging than the physical aspect.
