"Our relations are reaching a new level"

08 June 2024

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the national gymnastics federations of Azerbaijan and Sierra Leone. The agreement was signed by Nurlana Mammadzade, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, and Anna Williams, President of the Sierra Leone Gymnastics Federation. We present to you an interview with Anna Williams.

What can you say about the prospects of developing relations between our federations?
– We have a very strong and beautiful relationship. I first met Mariana Vasileva in 2020 during a meeting of the International Gymnastics Federation. Today, I can say that she is like a sister to me, and Mr. Farid Gayibov is like a brother. The Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation has become a family to me. Azerbaijan is my second homeland. You bring me so much positivity. Every representative of the Federation has supported us. Every young federation would wish to develop as rapidly as Azerbaijan's. I am very happy.

Your team participated in the 2nd Baku International “Challenge” in the “Gymnastics for All” discipline. What impression did this event leave on you?
– We accomplished something truly great here. Our performance surprised everyone. It was indeed very hard work. We trained a lot before coming here. The organization was at the highest level. And now we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Our relations are reaching a new level. It is amazing. I believe Baku will always be my second home.
