On December 7, the "Rector's Cup" in artistic gymnastics, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was held in the auxiliary hall of the National Gymnastics Arena, organized jointly by the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) and the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sports (ADBTIA).
The opening ceremony of the competition began with a video showcasing the contributions of the Great Leader to the field of sports. Following the performance of the National Anthem, the event honored the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our lands with a moment of silence. Fuad Hajiyev, the rector of ADBTIA, then spoke about how President Ilham Aliyev’s attention and care for sports have led to the successful organization of numerous competitions in our country.
After the official speeches, the opening ceremony continued with an artistic program.
In the competition, nearly 130 students from the first academic year of the academy's undergraduate level competed as part of 8 teams. In the individual all-around events, representatives from the teams “Kalbajar,” “Jabrayil,” “Agdam,” “Shusha,” “Fuzuli,” “Khojaly,” “Zangilan,” and “Lachin” competed in performing routines on the floor, various apparatus with different heights, and rings.
In the team events, members from the teams “Fuzuli,” “Shusha,” “Zangilan,” “Jabrayil,” “Lachin,” “Khankendi,” and “Agdam” demonstrated their capabilities. In the team competition, “Zangilan” placed 1st, “Fuzuli” 2nd, and “Shusha” 3rd. In the group routines, “Shusha” took 1st place, “Fuzuli” 2nd, and the “Zangilan” team secured 3rd place. In the individual all-around event, Rashad Mammadov, representing the “Zangilan” team, won the gold medal. Students representing the “Fuzuli” team, Rahib Mammadov won silver, and Vusal Samadov took bronze.
It is noteworthy that several joint projects aimed at the development of gymnastics have been successfully organized between AGF and ADBTIA to date.
The goal of holding the “Rector's Cup” for the first time is to enhance the experience of students from various faculties of the academy through gymnastics, which forms the foundation of all sports, and to strengthen their training forms.
We hope that mutual cooperation and exchange of experience will make a significant contribution to the future training of professional coach-teachers in this field.
