The opening ceremony of the World Cup in artistic gymnastics was held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku. The event began with a parade of teams. In his speech, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, noted that the number of countries participating in the World Cup has been increasing year by year.
The minister emphasized that the prestigious competitions held in our republic each year and the achievements gained are a result of the attention and care shown by the First Vice President of Azerbaijan and the President of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, Mehriban Aliyeva, towards the development of this sport.
Farid Gayibov highlighted that our country hosts three World Cups in gymnastics each year, and these competitions play a significant role in the development of gymnastics in Azerbaijan.
Afterward, the World Cup was declared open, and the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
In this competition, which serves as a qualifier for the “Paris 2024” Summer Olympic Games, nearly 300 male and female gymnasts from 67 countries will test their skills.
Our country will be represented by Nikita Simonov (rings), Ivan Tikhonov (pommel horse, vault, parallel bars, rings), Rasul Ahmadzade (pommel horse, parallel bars), Mensum Safarov (rings, floor exercises), and Murad Agarzaev (floor exercises) in the men's competition. In the women's competition, Nazanin Teymurova will compete (vault, balance beam, floor exercises). At the end of the four-day competitions, the traditional "AGF Trophy" will be awarded to the gymnasts with the highest execution scores.
