Today, the FIG Men’s & Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup has started in Baku.

Head of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Youth & Sports – Mr. Elnur Mammadov, who was making a speech at the Opening Ceremony, said that the World Cup competitions were organized for the seventh time in our country.

He mentioned that there were held the World “Challenge” Cup & “AGF Trophy” in this Gymnastics discipline in Baku in 2016 for the first time, followed by the traditional World Cup series successfully delivered since 2017.

Mr. Elnur Mammadov emphasized that our gymnasts were represented at the “London-2012”, “Rio-2016”, Summer Olympic Games “Tokyo-2020”. They were among the prize-winners at the European & World Championships and other major international tournaments.

It should be mentioned that along with Azerbaijan, 173 gymnasts from 48 countries are taking part at the World Cup organized in our country. This is a record number of participating countries in history of the World Cups held in Baku in Gymnastics disciplines.

During the four-day competitions, there will be Qualifications on the first two days, followed by the Finals on the 3rd & 4th days. At the tournament, the traditional “AGF Trophy” will be presented to the gymnasts who received the highest execution score.

Samira Gahramanova, Nazanin Teymurova, Nikita Simonov & Ivan Tikhonov will defend the sports honor of our country at the event.
