On the podium twice

On the final day of the World Cup, our rhythmic gymnasts once again brought joy to the home crowd. After winning a bronze medal in the all-around competition the previous day, the Azerbaijani group team — Gullu Aghalarzade, Leman Alimuradova, Kamilla Aliyeva, Zeynab Hummatova, Yelizaveta Luzan, and Darya Sorokina — repeated their success by claiming third place in the 3 ribbons + 2 balls routine with a score of 32.300. In the 5 hoops routine, they received 32.950 points from the judges and ranked 4th.

Winners in the individual apparatus finals were also determined on this day. Representing Azerbaijan in the individual program, our experienced gymnast Zohra Aghamirova performed her routines with the ball and clubs. Despite outperforming the world champion Sofia Raffaeli (Italy) and World bronze medalist Stiliana Nikolova (Bulgaria) in the ball routine, her score of 31.700 was not enough for a podium finish, placing her 4th. In the clubs final, she ranked 7th with 30.950 points, and finished 9th with ribbon (29.400 points) and 26th with hoop (29.750 points).

As per tradition, the “AGF Trophy” Cup was awarded to the individual gymnast and group team with the highest execution scores. In the individual category, Stiliana Nikolova (Bulgaria) claimed the trophy, while Team China won it in the group category.

With this event, Baku successfully hosted its fourth international gymnastics competition in 2023. The World Cup, held with the participation of 135 gymnasts from 40 countries, captivated audiences with exciting performances and was officially recorded as the 10th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup held in Azerbaijan.

We congratulate all winners and medalists and wish them continued success in their athletic careers.
