The 28th FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships held in Azerbaijan for the first time has come to an end.
The four-day World Championships with the participation of 170 gymnasts from 17 countries gave the participants interesting and exciting moments that they will remember for many years to come. The competition of the strongest was successful and remarkable for the representatives of Azerbaijan. Our Acrobatic gymnasts won 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
The Silver and Bronze medalists of the European Championships – our Mixed Pair - Aghasif Rahimov & Raziya Seyidli - achieved the highest result at the Worlds. Our athletes won the Silver medal (28,640) in Dynamic exercises. In the Final of Balance exercises, our Pair, which also distinguished itself at the competition, was very close to the medal, but, unfortunately, didn’t received enough points from the judges. Our team ranked 4th with 28,860 points.
Our Men’s Pair and European Champions among juniors - Daniel Abbasov & Murad Rafiyev won two Bronze medals at the World Championships. They ranked 3rd in Dynamic & Combined exercises. In the Finals, they became 6th (25,120) in Balance exercises.
Another representative of Azerbaijan at the Worlds within Mixed Pair - Sabir Aghayev & Mehriban Salamova, failed to reach the Finals, finishing the Qualifications in the 8th in Balance exercises, while in Dynamic exercises they took the 9th places.
It should be mentioned that the result achieved by the members of our National Team was remembered as the first achievement in the history of Azerbaijan in Acrobatic Gymnastics at the World Championships.
On the last day of the events, during the Closing Ceremony, the flag of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) was presented by Azerbaijan to FIG President Morinari Watanabe. He, in his turn, passed the flag to Israel, which will host the next World Championships in Acrobatic Gymnastics.
The show “Metaverse” prepared with the participation of gymnasts, concluded the Worlds.
On behalf of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF), we congratulate our representatives for the first medals won for our country with historic success at the first World Championships held in our country and wish them even greater achievements!
