As previously reported, today the National Gymnastics Arena has once again opened its doors to world-famous rhythmic gymnasts. A total of 135 gymnasts from 40 countries have gathered in Baku to showcase their talent and compete for top honors.
The captivating performances of the athletes on stage, accompanied by the enthusiastic applause of gymnastics fans, have added an extra thrill to the World Cup. Competing on home soil, Team Azerbaijan impressed spectators with their professional, colorful routines and unwavering determination.
On the first day of the World Cup, the qualification rounds in the individual and group all-around programs took place. First, individual gymnasts performed with hoop and ball, followed by group routines with 5 hoops.
Azerbaijan was represented in the individual all-around by Zohra Aghamirova — participant of the Tokyo Olympic Games, double silver medalist of the Summer Universiade, gold medalist of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, and triple medalist (gold, silver, bronze) of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games — and Alina Gozelova, a team bronze medalist at the European Championships and champion of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games.
Zohra Aghamirova ranked 9th overall in the qualifications with a combined score of 61.750 for her hoop and ball routines. She secured a place in the final for the ball event, placing 4th with a score of 32.000.
The Azerbaijani group team, consisting of Gullu Aghalarzade, Leman Alimuradova, Kamilla Aliyeva, Yelizaveta Luzan, Zeynab Hummatova, and Darya Sorokina, placed 3rd in the 5 hoops routine with 33.500 points, qualifying for the final.
Tomorrow, gymnasts will continue competing in the all-around program, with ribbon and clubs in the individual events and 3 ribbons and 2 balls in the group routines.
On the final day of the World Cup, the athletes who qualified will compete in the apparatus finals.
The World Cup will conclude on April 23.
