A spectacular start at the National Gymnastics Arena

From October 16th to 19th, the 15th European TeamGym Championships kicked off with great enthusiasm and fanfare at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku. This grand event brought together local spectators, athletes, and representatives from various European countries. The opening ceremony was a memorable celebration, blending sports and culture in a dazzling display.

The event began with captivating performances, featuring musical highlights, colorful shows, and special dance routines. These performances, which drew incredible attention from the audience, not only provided joyful moments but also underscored the importance Azerbaijan places on gymnastics. Everyone in attendance felt the country’s leadership in the sports arena and its impressive organizational capabilities.

In his speech, Minister of Youth and Sports and President of European Gymnastics, Farid Gayibov, spoke about Azerbaijan’s achievements in gymnastics, emphasizing that these accomplishments are due to the special care and attention of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the First Vice President, President of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, Mehriban Aliyeva. He also highlighted the significance of hosting such prestigious competitions in the country. Gayibov noted that the European TeamGym Championships holds special importance for participants, as it showcases the strength, agility, and teamwork that bring out the best in each athlete. He concluded by wishing the athletes success.

Before officially opening the competition, World Champion Tofiq Aliyev, speaking on behalf of all gymnasts, and Lisa Rose, a Grade I judge from the UK, on behalf of the judges, took an oath to fully adhere to the competition rules and ensure fairness.

Following the opening ceremony, the teams entered the arena, officially starting the championships. A total of 46 teams from 14 countries are competing in the event. Athletes from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Austria, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, and, of course, host country Azerbaijan, will showcase their skills. The performances will be judged by 28 referees, all experts in their field.

It should be noted that the competitions will continue until October 19th.
