A STEP AWAY FROM MEDALS

Azerbaijani gymnasts have stopped a step away from medals at the Grand Prix series and international tournament held in Holon, Israel.

According to the press-service of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, the leader of the national team, Aliya Garayeva, performed at four finals within the framework of the Grand Prix. She won the 4th place in the final with a rope having received high points – 28.425. Garayeva became the sixth with a ribbon, a hoop and in the all-around.

The fourth place in the all-around was also entered on the credit side of Samira Mustafayeva and the country’s group team consisting of Jeyla Guliyeva, Anastasiya Prasolova, Ayelita Khalafova, Nigar Abdusalimova, Stefani Trayanova and Yevgeniya Jidkova who competed in the international tournament.

Only Anna Gurbanova failed to be included into the list of first ten places. Evidently, her injury, sustained the day before the start of the last World Cup series and which still needed some treatment, affected her performance.

The first places were taken in Israel by Russian gymnasts, and an Olympic Champion Yevgeniya Kanayeva actually reached the maximum – 29.7 points from 30.0 possible ones.

“It was the last test-tournament before the World Championships starting in Moscow in two weeks. These days and hours before the Championships will be spent by the gymnasts in the final training camps: individual gymnasts – Garayeva, Gurbanova and Mustafayeva will continue their trainings at the base in Novogorsk situated near Moscow, and the group – at the Olympic Sports Complex in Baku,” stated the coaches of the national team.
