ACROBATS OF AZERBAIJAN – MEDALISTS OF THE TOURNAMENT IN RUSSIA

Acrobats of Azerbaijan won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in the international tournament called “Volkov Cup” held in Veliki Novgorod.

According to the press service of the country’s gymnastics federation, men’s group won the silver medal, and the bronze medal was won by women’s pair.

According to Avaz Abbasov, the group’s coach, they were only on the fourth place after the balance exercise. But having performed tempo composition best of their rivals, Rustam Najafguliyev, Ilham Abbasov, Elnur Mammadov and Farid Mammadov had become the second. And acrobats managed to reserve that place after performance with combined exercises in the final – 85.436 points. In addition, Farid won a special prize of the tournament in the “Will to Victory” nomination. As to the first place, it was taken by Russian acrobats.

Women’s pair, Ayla Akhmadova and Dilara Sultanova, also had been taking the fourth place after balance and tempo exercises in the qualification. But having accurately performed mixed maneuver, our pair took the third place – 86.415 points, losing to Russian and Belarusian acrobats.

“This tournament is also regarded as a small World Championships event where best acrobats are coming together for trying their strengths,” says the coach Irada Gurbanova. “We took the lead over the strong acrobats from Belgium and competed with the world champions from Belarus on equal level to the end.”

“I would also like to mention one more pleasant fact. As usual, various souvenir articles were sold in front of the entrance to the hall, among which T-shirts with Ayla and Dilara’s picture were being bought up. I was very proud that Azerbaijani acrobats are known and loved outside the country’s bounds.”

Men’s pair, Elchin Mammadov and Emil Yarahmadov, who performed at the juniors’ tournament, took the 5th place (82.6 points) among 9 duets.

Our acrobats are going to set out for a training camp of 3 weeks’ duration in Krasnodar early in September. On the south of Russia, together with the sportsmen of this country, they will take part in the final stage of preparation for the World Championships to be held in Glasgow, Scotland in October.
