An Azerbaijani gymnast Aliya Garayeva has won the silver medal at the World Universiade being held in Chinese Shenzhen! According to the press service of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, the national team’s leader took the second place in the final of an exercise with clubs having received 27.725 points. Only an Olympic Champion Yevgeniya Kanayeva performed better than Garayeva with this apparatus, and the bronze went to Alina Maksimenko from Ukraine. With other apparatus, Aliya Garayeva stopped a step away from the podium two times (a ball, a ribbon), as well as became the 6th with a hoop. The Universiade’s second participant, Anna Gurbanova, was able to reach only one final. Her performance with a hoop resulted in the 5th place, and she became the 10th in the all-around. Another World Cup series was being held in continental Bulgaria at the same time with the gymnasts’ tournament at the Universiade in Asian Chinese. The best result was shown by the Azerbaijani group team which qualified for both finals.
Our collective took the 6th place with 5 balls, and became the 7th with 2 hoops / 3 ribbons. As to the all-around, the girls took the 8th place having received 50.9 points. Zeynab Javadli contented herself with a place in the final at the World Cup as well. She closed the list of 8 finalists having shown the 14th result in the all-around a day ago. Another gymnast Samira Mutafayeva also took the 12th place in the all-around.
