Aliya Garayeva defended her title won in 2008 and became an Azerbaijani overall champion in rhythmic gymnastics for the second time. Having received 108.705 points in the all-around of the country’s 16th championship, she took the considerable lead over Anna Gurbanova (104.825) and Zeynab Javadli (98.675). Garayeva also took the first places in exercises with separate apparatus, namely, with a rope, a ball and a ribbon. Aliya took the second place only for her performance with a hoop. And Gurbanova became a champion with this apparatus. All the third places of the finals were taken by Javadli.
In the juniors’ competitions, the best gymnastics performance was demonstrated by Aysha Mustafayeva (86.95), who won all the 5 gold medals. Ekaterina Prokopenko (85.4) became the silver medalist, and the bronze medal was won by Lala Yusifova (81.45). In separate finals, Prokopenko (a rope and a ball) and Yusifova (a hoop and clubs) became silver medalists two times. The third places were taken by Yusifova (a rope), Mansura Baghiyeva (a hoop and a ball) and Aynur Jabbarli (clubs).
Within the framework of the championship, Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation held a tournament for its prizes, where 14 gymnasts born in 1998-99 took part in. These gymnasts represented sports societies of Baku and as well as Ganja. According to the triathlon’s results, the first place was taken by Nilufar Niftaliyeva who received 60.2 points in the competition of young gymnasts. Gulsum Shafizada (59.5) became the silver medalist and the bronze medal was won by Emilia Baghiyeva (56.725).
It should be mentioned that this championship turned out to be interesting and spectacular, as well as international. Along with Azerbaijani gymnasts, five gymnasts from Bulgaria, two from Georgia and one gymnast from Serbia demonstrated their skills in the out-of-competition program on the arena of the capital’s Olympic Complex.
The championship was concluded with a Gala-concert, where all the winners of the competition, group teams, as well as pre-junior and foreign sportswomen performed. The Secretary General of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, Farid Gayibov, made a speech at the end of the event. He congratulated all the champions and prize-winners and mentioned of the forthcoming European Championships. “The leadership of the European Union of Gymnastics again entrusted holding of these championships to us, as it was 2 years ago. And we have to organize it better than it was in 2007. I also call the country’s all sports fans to spend one of the week-ends of May at the European gymnastics festival, fill the sports complex’s tribunes and support our gymnasts,” the Secretary General of the National Federation emphasized.
