One silver and two bronze medals – such is the yield of Azerbaijani gymnasts from the World Cup series held in Pesaro (Italy) last week.
According to the press service of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, the national team’s leader Aliya Garayeva lived up to her reputation. She twice mounted the bronze step of the Italian podium. In final with a hoop and a ball, Garayeva entered into competition with a Russian Yevgeniya Kanayeva and a Belarusian Lyubov Cherkashina having received 27.3 and 27.65 points accordingly. Another gymnast Anna Gurbanova became the 18th in the all-around among 43 competitors.
On the Apennines, Azerbaijan was also represented by a junior group team consisting of Lala Yusifova, Mansura Bagiyeva, Aysha Mustafayeva, Siyana Vasileva, Aynur Jabbarli and Sabina Garatova.
“After the first qualification, the girls were on the 3rd place,” the national team’s head coach, Mariana Vasileva, informed. “But in the finals, having received high 25 points, the collective became the second after Russia and higher than Israel.”
As to the senior group team, the best result was shown in a final exercise with 5 balls – the 8th place. In the international tournament among juniors, a 13-year-old Gulsum Shafizada and Laman Dadashli became the 11th and 19th accordingly among 31 participants.
And Gulsum, as well as another junior gymnast Laman Hajizada (born in 1999) and Zeynab Javadli will perform at the international tournament to be held in Poland this weekend – April 2-3.
