Azerbaijani gymnast inducted in the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame

Oklahoma City, U.S., hosted 19th annual ceremony of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame (IGHOF) on May 16.

Some five people were inducted into the Hall of Fame at the event.

Philippe Silacci of Switzerland, retired FIG Media Relations; Johanna Quaas of Germany; Abie Grossfeld of the U.S., a two-time Olympian Champion; Yelena Zamolodchikova, Olympian Champion, and another Olympian, a three-time World Champion, Azerbaijan’s Valery Belenky are among those honored at the annual ceremony.

Valery Belenky became the first gymnast from Azerbaijan to be inducted into the Hall.

In 1992, being the part of the united team, Valery Belenky won the gold medal in the team competition and bronze in the absolute individual all-around at the Olympic Games in Barcelona.

The International Gymnastics Hall of Fame, founded in 1972, is located in Oklahoma City. Each year, a special committee announces the list of gymnasts inducted in the Hall of Fame.
