AZERBAIJANI GYMNASTS BRING 17 MEDALS FROM TURKEY

Our athletes have brought five gold, eight silver and four bronze medals from "Bosphorus Cup - 2014" international tournament in artistic gymnastics.


The cultural capital of Turkey – Istanbul hosted competitions held on September 6-7. This Cup became rich in medals for Azerbaijani athletes. Brilliantly performing on the uneven bars, balance beam and jump Anna Pavlova brought as many as four gold medals in the treasury of the women's team. Moreover, she made herself a birthday gift, becoming the first in the all-around. Other members of our team - Marina Nekrasova, Yulia Inshina and Maria Smirnova neatly lined up behind her.


Nekrasova, country’s reigning champion showed the second result in a jump and the third in the floor exercise, while Inshina took silver in the floor exercise and bronze medal on the balance beam.


The men's team also excelled at Istanbul competitions, winning eight gold medals. Ideally performing on the parallel bars, Petr Pakhnyuk brought his team gold medal. He also took a "bronze" performing on a horse, and became the second in all-round. Oleg Stepko, the reigning champion of Azerbaijan won four "silver", performing on the parallel bars, horizontal bar, the horse, and in the floor exercise. He also became the third in the all-around.


In the team standings Pakhnyuk, Stepko, Ruslan Namazov and Ugur Khalilbayli won "silver", beating a team from Bulgaria. Turkish gymnasts became silver prizewinners. Our athletes is going to participate in the largest start of the season - the World Championships, to be held in China in early October.
