Azerbaijani gymnasts Stepko and Pravdina – country’s absolute champions

The first day of the Open Joint Championships in gymnastic disciplines wrapped up in Baku today and became memorable thanks to the bright victories of the Azerbaijani gymnasts.

Following the results of the all-round final in men’s artistic gymnastics Azerbaijani gymnast Oleg Stepko won gold medal and the title of absolute national champion (90.600 points), his compatriot Petro Pakhnyuk ranks second (88.055) and the prizewinner of the London Olympic Games Croatian Filip Ude won the bronze medal (86.100).

Kristina Pravdina, representative of Azerbaijan in women’s artistic gymnastics, won gold medal. Gaining 50.339 points at the end of the four performances, our gymnast has become an absolute champion of the country. Her lined two representatives of Turkey - Tutya Yilmaz (50.131) and Demet Mutlu (49.332).

Tomorrow will be dedicated to the four disciplines at once - trampoline, aerobic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and acrobatic gymnastics. The final day of competition will be saturated - competitions will be held in all six disciplines.

The competition brings together 133 gymnasts from 22 countries: among them there are stars of world gymnastics. Two-time world champion in rhythmic gymnastics, three-time European champion Yana Kudryavtseva, as well as silver medalist of the Olympic Games, World and European Championships Filip Ude, multiple World Cup medalist in rhythmic gymnastics, twice the absolute champion of the country and the European Games’ sports Ambassador Marina Durunda and many others are performing in Baku.

This competition is special as it takes place in the same way as the first European Games. This will set a precedent in the history of gymnastics and an excellent opportunity for aerobic gymnasts and acrobats who will be able to compete together with artistic gymnasts and trampolinists sports at the same field of play.
