AZERBAIJANI GYMNASTS TAKE FIFTH PLACES IN THE WORLD CUP SERIES IN ITALY

Azerbaijani gymnasts have taken the fifth places in the next World Cup series which has come to the end in Italian city Pesaro.

Having acquired a right to take part in three finals of four possible ones, Anna Gurbanova gave her best results in exercises with a rope and a hoop and took the 5th places. One of the participants of the forthcoming Euro-2009 in Baku became the 6th in a final with a ball.

The country’s another gymnast Aliya Garayeva also reached the final three times and was marked by the following performances: the 7th place with a rope and a ball and the 8th place with a ribbon.

In the all-around, both gymnasts shared 9-10th places having received 101.65 points. The third participant from Azerbaijan, Zeynab Javadli, received 91.85 points and took the 18th place among the 33 competitors.

The victory in Pesaro was celebrated by Yevgeniya Kanayeva who gave the best results four times.

An Azerbaijani senior group team can also boast of its performance in the final. Our collective consisting of Vafa Huseynova, Dina Gorina, Anastasiya Prasolova, Valeriya Yegay, Jeyla Guliyeva and Nigar Mirzayeva preparing to this year’s main tournament for them – the World Championships to be held in Japan in September, received 23.7 points for the performance with 3 ribbons and 2 ropes and also won the 5th place.

Azerbaijani national team took the 6th place (44.625) according to the results of the double-event. The floor’s hostesses became the owner of the World Cup having taken the first places in all three kinds of the program.

According to the press service of the National Federation, the tournament in Italy became the last for the individual gymnasts on the threshold of the European Championships starting in Baku in 10 days.

It has already become known that the Lithuanian gymnasts will arrive to Baku first among foreign delegations. Their arrival is expected in the night from the 10 to the 11th of May. The competitions will begin at 10:30 on May 15 – with the performance of seniors. On the same day, the championship’s official opening ceremony will take place. It will start at 18:30.

Euro-2009 will be broadcasted in Azerbaijan on “Lider TV” channel. Foreign television channels showed interest in the continental championships as well, particularly, Russian “RTR Sport” channel which also sends its commentator as a delegate to Baku. The rest of the world will watch the euro-2009 in Baku on “Eurosport” channel and in a number of other channels.
