Azerbaijani gymnasts win European Championship title

Today, the 39th European Championship in rhythmic gymnastics, hosted by our capital, came to a close. Under the slogan "Shine like a star," the prestigious gymnastics competition saw the participation of 315 athletes from 38 countries, who competed for five days.

Azerbaijan, having successfully hosted the World Championships twice and the European Championships four times, once again proved itself as a high-level organizer. The championship was also memorable for our team’s successful performance.

Intensive training, unwavering determination, and the set goals paid off. Our representatives were awarded five medals (1 gold, 4 bronze) at the European Championship. The group of senior gymnasts made history by winning Azerbaijan's first-ever gold medal at the European Championship.

The team members—Gullu Agalarzade, Leman Elimuradova, Kamilla Aliyeva, Zeynab Hummatova, Yelizaveta Luzan, and Darya Sorokina—executed their routines with precision, performing with three ribbons and two balls. They scored 32.250 points, surpassing all competitors, and proudly played the Azerbaijani national anthem while raising our flag. Our athletes also secured a bronze medal in the all-around competition.

Another moment of joy came from our individual gymnast, Zohra Agamirova. On the fourth day of the European Championship, the experienced gymnast displayed high professionalism and determination, earning her first medal at the European Championship—a bronze award.

Zohra, a participant in the Tokyo Summer Olympics and a double silver medalist at the Summer Universiade, as well as the winner of the IV Islamic Solidarity Games, made history as the first Azerbaijani gymnast to win a medal at the European Championship with her distinct style and elegant competition outfits.

This time, our youth group team also earned two bronze medals. The team members—Gövher Ibrahimova, Səkinəxanım İsmayılzadə, Mədinə Aslanova, İlahə Bahadırova, Ayan Sadıqova, and Zəhra Cəfərova—placed third in the all-around competition (58.450 points) and in the routine with five balls (29.000 points). With this result, they also made history as the first team to win medals in two performance routines at a continental championship.

Within the framework of the European Championship, Hungarian gymnast Fanni Piqnitski was awarded the “Shooting Star” Smartscoring prize. Additionally, the local organizing committee presented the “Audience Favorite” award (for youth group teams), the “Miss Press” award (for individual gymnasts in the senior category), and the “Team Spirit” award (for senior group teams). Azerbaijan’s youth group team received the “Audience Favorite” award, while Romania’s representative, Analiz Dragan, won the “Miss Press” award, and Ukraine’s senior group team received the “Team Spirit” award.

We congratulate our representatives on this historic achievement and wish them even greater success in the future!
