Azerbaijani gymnasts participated in the World Gymnaestrada

The members of the Azerbaijani National Team in Gymnastics for All participated in the World Gymnaestrada held in the capital city of the Netherlands (Amsterdam) from July 30 to August 5.

At the event held at four-year interval, our country was represented by the team called “Flame” consisting of Humbatova Milena, Ismayilova Aygun, Karimova Seljan, Hatamzade Aylin, Mahmudzade Khadija, Aghamirova Turkan, Jahangirova Narmin, Safarli Samira, Aliyeva Ayan, Fataliyeva Rana, Teymurzade Sehri, Mahmudov Musa, Safiya Sabitova, Babayeva Leyla - led by the Head Coach - Ruslan Eyvazov.  

It should be mentioned that the Gymnaestrada is a kind of World Gymnastics festival which amazes the audience with its colorfulness, spectacular shows & diversity in a non-competitive atmosphere. Here, athletes of different age categories, cultures, representing all Gymnastics disciplines, demonstrate their exhibition performances. The program of the event consists of the Opening Ceremony, Group performances, various shows, exhibition performances in the city center, FIG Gala & Closing Ceremony.

This year’s 17th World Gymnaestrada held in a friendly atmosphere, brought together about 19,000 participants from 56 countries.

The team called “Flame”, representing our country, was part of the great Gymnastics festival held at the Amsterdam Convention Centre. At the Opening Ceremony on July 30, the members of our team - Timur Sabitov & Musa Mahmudov were the flag bearers of the Azerbaijani delegation.

They performed a 10-minute composition about the struggle between good & evil called “Peace will come”. The performance of our team attracted the interest of foreign delegations. The close support of Japan, Portugal, Greece & Switzerland made our athletes even more inspired during their performances. Our team included gymnasts from Nakhchivan AR, Goychay, Ismayilli, Zagatala, Mingachevir, and Aghdash. The Head Coach of the National Team in Gymnastics for All stated that he was content with the performance of our athletes: “The performance presented by the team called “Peace will come” reflects the struggle between good & evil. Peace, friendship & kindness win at the end of the struggle. I was content with the performance of our gymnasts. Representatives of other countries also presented colorful programs. I would like to emphasize that we performed at a true value of a Gymnastics family member”.
