On February 23, the opening ceremony of the World Cup in trampoline gymnastics and tumbling was held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku. The event began with a parade of teams.
In her speech, Mariana Vasileva, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, spoke about the successes achieved by our representatives in trampoline gymnastics and tumbling in recent years.
The Deputy Minister expressed her gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the First Vice President of the Republic, Mehriban Aliyeva, for the special attention and care shown towards the development of sports in our country.
M. Vasileva noted that this is the seventh time the World Cup in trampoline gymnastics and tumbling has been held in Azerbaijan, and that gymnasts from 32 countries will compete in this event, which serves as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
She wished success to all participants on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. After the Deputy Minister declared the competition open, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
It is worth mentioning that a total of 300 gymnasts from 32 countries are participating in the World Cup in trampoline gymnastics and tumbling. In trampoline gymnastics, our country is represented by Selcan Mahsudova, the silver medalist of the World Cup in the women's category and the FIG Cup holder (individual performance), and Hüseyn Abbasov, the winner of the World Age Group Championships (individual and synchronized performances), along with international tournament winners Nicat Mirzayev (individual and synchronized performances) and Mehdi Aliyev (individual performance).
In the tumbling competition, two-time world champion and European champion Mikhail Malkin, world champions Adil Hacızade and Tofiq Aliyev in the team competition, and Bilal Qurbanov, who won a bronze medal in the team competition at the European Championship, will also compete.
The first two days of the competition will consist of qualification rounds for men and women, while the final rounds will take place on the last day.
