Opening ceremony of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup held

On April 21, the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup kicked off in Baku. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Elnur Mammadov, Head of the Sports Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, stated that this is the tenth time Azerbaijan is hosting the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup.

E. Mammadov emphasized that just last week, our capital successfully hosted the international rhythmic gymnastics tournament “AGF Trophy.” He also noted that 135 gymnasts from 40 countries are participating in the World Cup.

Talking about the achievements in rhythmic gymnastics, the department head recalled that last year, Azerbaijan’s group team won a historic bronze medal-the first in the country’s gymnastics history-and that our representatives claimed three bronze medals at the European Championship.

It should be noted that the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup is being held at the National Gymnastics Arena and will continue until April 23.

Azerbaijan is represented at the competition by Zohra Aghamirova and Alina Gozelova in the individual program, and by Gullu Aghalarzade, Laman Alimuradova, Kamilla Aliyeva, Zeynab Hummatova, Yelizaveta Luzan, and Darya Sorokina in the group routines.

Winners will be determined in individual apparatus events as well as in the All-Around competition.

As per tradition, the gymnast and group team with the highest execution score will be awarded the “AGF Trophy” Cup.
