And finally, the long-awaited news! With great pride and joy, we announce that Azerbaijan’s rhythmic gymnastics group team has officially secured a spot at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, as confirmed by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
From May 22 to 26, our team competed at the European Championships in Budapest, Hungary, which served as the final continental qualification event for the Olympic Games. In the all-around competition (5 hoops; 3 ribbons & 2 balls), our team scored 70.200 points, placing fourth behind Bulgaria, Italy, and Spain, who had already secured their Olympic spots earlier. Since only one qualification spot was available for group exercises at this year’s continental championships, and Azerbaijan achieved the highest ranking among the remaining eligible teams, our national team has officially earned its place at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
With this achievement, Azerbaijan has now secured three gymnastics quotas for the upcoming Olympic Games.
The first quota was obtained by our top individual rhythmic gymnast, Zohra Agamirova, who previously made history as the first Azerbaijani gymnast to compete in the individual program at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The second quota was won by Seljan Mahsudova in trampoline gymnastics, marking a historic first for Azerbaijan in this discipline.
And now, our rhythmic gymnastics group team has joined the list of Olympic qualifiers, adding another milestone to Azerbaijan’s gymnastics legacy.
We thank our gymnasts for their incredible performances and for raising our flag with honor.
Wishing them the best of luck on the grand stage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games!
