From May 22 to 26, the sports community focused its attention on Budapest, where the European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics provided an opportunity for our gymnasts to demonstrate their skills and preparation. For experienced gymnasts, it was a chance to solidify their place among the favorites, while for young gymnasts, it was an opportunity to prove themselves and enter the ranks of the strongest.
Our national team opened the first day of the European Championships with a medal! The junior individual gymnasts—Govhar Ibrahimova (hoop), Shams Agahuseynova (ribbon), Ilaha Bahadirova (ball), and Fidan Gurbanli (clubs)—secured a bronze medal in the team competition, scoring a total of 117.400 points. The Romanian team claimed the gold, while Israel took the silver. Additionally, all four of our junior gymnasts advanced to the finals.
Although they did not reach the podium in the final stage, they delivered strong performances, securing top rankings:
• Ilaha Bahadirova (ball) – 4th place with 30.500 points
• Shams Agahuseynova (ribbon) – 4th place with 28.300 points
• Govhar Ibrahimova (hoop) – 5th place with 30.400 points
• Fidan Gurbanli (clubs) – 8th place with 28.400 points
Meanwhile, our group exercise team maintained their strong position throughout the European Championships. Competing in the all-around category (5 hoops; 3 ribbons and 2 balls), they scored 70.200 points, placing 4th overall. Additionally, the team—Leman Alimuradova, Zeynab Hummetova, Kamilla Aliyeva, Darya Sorokina, Gullu Agalarzada, and Yelizaveta Luzan—qualified for the finals in both routines. They secured:
• 4th place in the 3 ribbons and 2 balls final with 33.350 points
• 6th place in the hoops final with 36.600 points
Among the senior individual gymnasts, Zohra Agamirova, Kamilla Seyidzade, and Ilona Zeynalova represented Azerbaijan in Budapest. The best result came from Zohra Agamirova, who scored 32.400 points in the ball routine, placing 12th overall.
We wish our gymnasts continued success and bright performances on the biggest stages!
