10 December 2023
On December 10, the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation concluded the national competition season with the 7th Azerbaijan Championship in trampoline gymnastics and the 19th Azerbaijan Championship in tumbling, as well as the Baku Championship.
Unlike last year, this time the competitions took place in the auxiliary hall of the National Gymnastics Arena. A total of 99 athletes (70 in trampoline and 29 in tumbling) represented the “Ocaq Sport” Club, Baku Gymnastics School, “Neftchi” Sports Club, and the Specialized Olympic Reserve Children and Youth Sports School No. 13.
The competition kicked off with performances in trampoline gymnastics, which began developing in our country at the end of 2013. In this discipline, young athletes competed in individual all-around events in various age categories: toddlers (born in 2016), children (born in 2013-2015), adolescents (born in 2011-2012), youths (born in 2007-2010), and adults (born in 2006 and older). Athletes in the children, adolescent, and youth age categories also took to the stage in the synchronized program to compete for the title of national champion. Among the athletes were Selcan Mahsudova, a silver and bronze medalist at the World Cup, as well as Samira Huseynova and Ayan Shabanova, who recently earned silver medals in the synchronized program at the World Age Group Championships held in Birmingham, England, along with Ibrahim Mustafazadeh and Ammar Bakhshaliyev. The participation of these experienced athletes further motivated the younger gymnasts to strive for victory.
In the tumbling competition, athletes competed in age categories: children (2013-2015), adolescents (2011-2012), youths (2007-2010), and adults (2006 and older).
Alongside our young athletes who showcased stunning performances, Elnur Mammadov, a member of the national team that recently won a gold medal in the team event at the World Championships in Birmingham, and Aleksey Karataşov, a bronze medalist at the World Age Group Championships, also participated in the tournament.
Winners in this discipline were determined based on the total score from two performances in the qualification round. Throughout the competition, parents provided support to the athletes who delivered thrilling performances in both disciplines.
