While the 2nd CIS Games, which kicked off on August 5 in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, are still ongoing, the rhythmic gymnastics competitions have already concluded. A total of 177 Azerbaijani athletes are competing in 16 different sports at the Games.
Representing our country in rhythmic gymnastics were senior individual gymnasts Ilona Zeynalova, Kamila Qafarova, and Kamilla Seyidzade, as well as our junior group team members Govhar Ibrahimova, Sakinakhanim Ismayilzada, Madina Aslanova, Ilaha Bahadirova, Ayan Sadigova and Zahra Jafarova.
The junior group team, already a two-time bronze medalist at the European Championships (All-Around, 5 balls) and a three-time bronze medalist at the World Championships (All-Around, 5 Ropes, 5 Balls), once again met expectations.
On the first day of competition, our representatives qualified for the finals in the 5 Ropes exercise. The next day, they advanced to the final in the 5 Balls routine, securing a bronze medal in the All-Around event for our team. Their performance in the individual apparatus finals was also successful, as the gymnasts claimed third place in both the 5 Ropes and 5 Balls exercises.
In the individual program, Kamilla Seyidzade reached the finals in Ball and Hoop, while Kamila Gafarova and Ilona Zeynalova competed in the Ribbon exercise finals.
Overall, in the team standings based on the results of the individual performances, Azerbaijan ranked 4th.
