The competitive season continues actively for our gymnasts, and last week was no exception.
From May 23 to 26, our national team represented Azerbaijan at the FIG Challenge World Cup in Varna, Bulgaria, in artistic gymnastics. The team included Murad Agarzayev (floor exercise, pommel horse, vault), Ivan Tikhonov (horizontal bar), Rasul Ahmadzadeh (floor exercise, pommel horse, parallel bars), and Nazanin Teymurova (vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise).
One of Azerbaijan's top female artistic gymnasts, Nazanin Teymurova, successfully qualified for the vault final. Her performance in the decisive stage was scored 12.683 points by the judges, placing her 7th overall. Among our male gymnasts, the best result came from Rasul Ahmadzadeh, who scored 13.350 points in the pommel horse qualification round, ranking 12th.
Last week, our gymnasts also participated in another major international event. Representatives of aerobic gymnastics—Vladimir Dolmatov, Dilara Gurbanova, and Madina Mustafayeva—competed at the FIG Aerobic Gymnastics World Cup in Yokohama, Japan, on May 25-26. They showcased performances in individual (Gurbanova), mixed pairs (Dolmatov & Mustafayeva), and trio routines (all three athletes together).
Our gymnasts achieved their best result in the mixed pair category, where they scored 18.550 points in the final round, securing 5th place.
Every competition serves as an opportunity for our gymnasts to evaluate and improve their performances. We wish them great success in future competitions!
