A seeing-off ceremony of Azerbaijani sportsmen, who will participate in the 29th Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, took place on July 30.

Bidding farewell to them, the president of Azerbaijan, the head of the National Olympic Committee, Ilham Aliyev, reminded that our country would take part in the Olympic Games as an independent republic already for the fourth time. He expressed his hope that the national team would successfully perform in Beijing.

“I think we must give a good result in the Olympic Games in Beijing due to all the measures taken,” he said.

The head of the country stated the participation in the Olympic Games was a historic event in each sportsman’s life regardless of the results achieved. “At the same time, I call you to the victory. You must know that every patriotic citizen of Azerbaijan will watch these Games and wait for your victories! After all, the main factor calling and leading the sportsmen to the victory - is love for the homeland and patriotic spirit,” Ilham Aliyev summed up.
