This week, the National Gymnastics Arena opened its doors to artistic gymnasts. On November 30 and December 1, the 28th Azerbaijan Championship in men's artistic gymnastics and the open Baku Championship were held in the auxiliary hall of the arena, as well as the 7th Azerbaijan Championship and Baku Championship in women's artistic gymnastics. A total of 60 athletes representing the “Ocaq Sport Club,” Baku Gymnastics School, Sumgayit Olympic Sports Complex, “Zira Culture Center,” and Balakan tested their skills.
It is worth noting that the competitors showcasing their skills were not only local athletes. Two members of the Mongolian national team also participated in the men's category as part of an exhibition program.
Male gymnasts competed in the following age categories: toddlers (born in 2016), young children (born in 2014-2015), children (born in 2012-2013), adolescents (born in 2010-2011), youths (born in 2008-2009, Category B; born in 2006-2007, Category A), and adults (born in 2005 and older).
Female gymnasts competed in the following age categories: children (born in 2012-2013), adolescents (born in 2011-2012), youths (born in 2008-2010), and adults (born in 2007 and older).
On the first day of the competition, winners were determined in the individual all-around events among girls in the categories of children, adolescents, youths, and adults, as well as among boys in the categories of toddlers, youths, and adults.
The following day, both male and female gymnasts presented their routines on separate apparatus. Among women, the strongest competitors were identified in the age categories of adolescents, youths, and adults for vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise.
Among men, the strongest competitors were determined in the age categories of youths and adults for floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.
