Record breaking and Gold medal World Cup

From March 9 to 12, the National Gymnastics Arena successfully hosted another prestigious event – the World Cup in men's and women's artistic gymnastics.

The second international competition of 2023 held in Azerbaijan was memorable for several reasons. For the first time in the history of gymnastics World Cups held in our country, a record number of participating countries was set. A total of 173 athletes from 48 countries joined the competition.

Of course, competing against world-renowned gymnastics stars was not easy for our national team members, Nikita Simonov, Ivan Tikhonov, Nazanin Teymurova, and Samira Gahramanova.

Among our athletes, the highest result was achieved by Nikita Simonov. After winning a bronze medal at the World Cup in Doha earlier this year, he made a statement right from the qualification round in this competition. Placing first in the qualifications, our representative overcame all his competitors in the final and raised our flag, playing our anthem at the World Cup.

Although our other athletes did not win medals, they stood out with their confident performances. Ivan Tikhonov represented our country in the final on the high bar, and Nazanin Teymurova, competing in the senior category this year, placed 8th in the floor exercise.

Thus, another World Cup successfully concluded in our country.

We congratulate all the winners and medalists of the competition and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.

You can find the final results of the competition on the agf.az website.
