ZEYNAB JAVADLI IS THE SECOND IN CROATIA, AND SHAKIR SHIKHALIYEV – THE COUNTRY’S CHAMPION FOR THE SECOND TIME

An Azerbaijani gymnast Zeynab Javadli won the silver medal at the international tournament held in Croatia the day before.

According to the press service of the country’s gymnastics Federation, 17-year-old sportswoman of Baku took the second place in total of performances with a rope, a hoop, clubs and a ribbon having received 63.635 points. Vera Sesina from Russia became the winner, Anna Marii Zjelimorski from Croatia won the bronze medal.

“If the finals with separate apparatus had been included into the competition program, I would have mounted the podium at least twice,” Zeynab Javadli said with a part of regret in her voice at Pleso airport in Zagreb.

“But it does not mean that I am not contended with my only award, by no means. The tournament in Zagreb became the last for me this year, so I am completing it in a cheerful mood.”

We would like to remind you that Javadli had become the bronze medalist of the World Championships among clubs held in Tokyo and had taken the 5th place at the Grand Prix final in Bratislava not long ago.

The final round of the “Serie A1” Italian Championship is waiting for Azerbaijani gymnasts within the next weekend. Aliya Garayeva will defend the colors of “Ardor” club and Anna Gurbanova will defend the colors of “Comense 1872” club in Folinio on December 6.

Meanwhile, 15th Azerbaijan championship in artistic gymnastics, where 67 gymnasts from the capital’s sports societies, as well as from the clubs of Sumgayit and Balakan took part, came to the end.

Shakir Shikhaliyev became Azerbaijani champion among master of sports for the second consecutive year. He received 46.3 points for the exercises on the pommel horse, bars, rings, vault, horizontal bar and free combination. Elvin Aghadadayev fell behind of him by nearly 6 points and Faig Shikhaliyev, the champion’s brother, fell behind of him by 10 points.

Having received 48.2 points, Ruslan Balakishiyev won the first place among the candidates for master of sports again. The “silver” was won by Yevgeni Samarkin (41.9), the “bronze” by Ughur Halilbayli (41.3).

Anar Alihasanov was announced a winner among first-grade gymnasts – 42.6 points, the second place – Altay Ahadov (42.5), the third place – Ilgar Ahmadli (42.4).
