"We have a very bright future"

26 October 2024

Here’s our interview with Siyana Vasileva, the coach of Azerbaijan’s Rhythmic Gymnastics Group team and the athletes’ representative for rhythmic gymnastics at the International Gymnastics Federation, following her seminar for coaches.

What did the seminar cover?
- This seminar was very important. We gathered here with coaches eager to learn. The material I taught focused on fundamental topics, specifically what needs to be instilled in gymnasts from childhood. This foundation is essential for their well-being and future. I discussed how to conduct training sessions effectively and which psychological aspects to consider at this age.

How would you describe the experience you’re able to share with the current generation of coaches?
- I think I have valuable experience. I've been working with the Azerbaijani national team for 14 years—first as a gymnast and for nearly five years now as a coach. I hope that what I’ve shared will be beneficial.

How engaged were the coaches during the seminar?
- The coaches were very active, which I really appreciated. They asked questions and we had meaningful discussions. It was more than just a monologue—it became a great conversation, bringing clarity to many points. It’s essential that coaches across Azerbaijan work with a unified methodology.

How would you evaluate the younger generation of gymnasts in Azerbaijan?
- We have some amazing children—wonderful girls with the height and physique suited for rhythmic gymnastics. They have a lot of potential. We have a very bright future ahead. Every day, more children take up this sport, and it continues to improve and grow.
